Paris Saint-Germain Edges Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now won the prestigious cup on 14 different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the match between the French league winners and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele found the net early on.

Yet, Marseille struck two times in the closing moments to take a surprise lead. First, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial leveler in the dying moments to send the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping decisive attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 shootout victory.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the past thirteen years.
