Power facilities under attack in Ukraine
The country's energy systems have come under escalating attacks in recent weeks

Overnight, Russian aerial assaults have resulted in electricity outages in extensive areas of the capital city, Kyiv.

A number of civilians were injured while inhabitants in eastern neighborhoods were experienced blackouts and encountered problems to water systems, per reports from local authorities.

Meanwhile, a seven-year-old child was fatally injured in a separate assault in the Zaporizhzhia area in the country's south-east, according to area administrators.

Russian forces has intensified attacks on electrical systems over the last fortnight, while Ukrainian leadership has called for "concrete actions" from allies to exert influence on Moscow.

"What is required is not symbolic gestures but decisive action - from the US, the EU and the G7 - in providing protection systems and applying penalties," was stated in a public message.

Officials stated that hundreds of unmanned aircraft and several dozen missiles targeted energy facilities, labeling such strikes as "strategic and deliberate" and against "essential services" as winter approaches.

Energy officials said Russia was "inflicting a massive strike" and maintenance teams were working to fix the damage.

A barrage of missiles damaged electrical systems and civilian homes in the capital.

Several of the people injured in the strikes on the capital have been transported for medical care, per statements from local officials.

Regional authorities said the city endured heavy assaults overnight. A young boy was killed and multiple civilians were wounded.

The strikes come after nights of bombing campaigns in the region, portions of which are currently controlled by Moscow's military.

The entire country is on alert for sophisticated projectile assaults, which are tougher to spot.

National leaders told reporters that Russia was deliberately attempting to damage the electrical infrastructure, with assaults already impacting gas facilities.

He said energy workers and authorities were preparing for further attacks.
