19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hard surfaces

A resurgent the Russian player secured his initial trophy for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has endured a torrid year, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the American major.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in especial - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually separating with long-time coach Cervara.

Presently collaborating with Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set triumph over opponent Moutet.

This marks his first championship following the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface since spring of that year.

The win also means the Russian has won twenty-one championships at 21 different tournaments.

"For the first time I am participating in a event with my both daughters at once, so to get a title is really nice," commented tennis professional Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my child her name, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six finals, featuring in that event previously this season.

The player's defensive strategy and regular reactions on the tennis court had led observers to question if his ability to perform at the highest level was finished.

However the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, striving to advance forward and perform positively, supported by an improved service.

He came back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, taking 4 of the last five exchanges to go ahead.

The competitors swapped break points in the following set before the challenger, bidding for his first tour victory, gained dominance to create a third set.

The opponent saved 4 initial chances in a competitive final set before Medvedev broke to fifteen to serve for the match.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned the title with a shot at the net area, with Moutet failing to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
