Roughly fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then located multiple other marked automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement state early analysis suggest the fluid was likely human blood.
"There is still no clue as to its origin; investigators are not yet informed of any injuries in connection with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have requested to the residents for information.
A senior representative stated the vandalism left him speechless and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This incident hits the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing attack five years ago," he posted on a platform, mentioning the death of nine victims by a gunman targeting residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
